本種は本州から琉球列島に広く分布し、台湾からも知られる。本種は関東地方では５～１０月頃に、アオキやタブノキに多く見られ、おそらくこれらの植物が寄主植物と思われる。個体数が非常に多い時期には、近隣の寄主植物以外の植物にも多くの個体が観察できる。オスはイノデの葉にもよく見られる。インドに分布するT. alis (Bhatt)は本種に非常に似るが、触角第３、４節の感覚錐がより短いこと、前胸背板の刻線が明瞭であること等で識別できる。

This species is widely distributed from Honshu to the Ryukyu Islands and Taiwan. In the Kanto-region of Honshu, many individuals of this species occur on the leaves of Aucuba japonica and Machilus thunbergii in May to October. Probably this species feeds on these plats plants but it is also found on many unrelated plant species when it outbreaks as like T. elegans. An Indian species, T. alis (Bhatti) is very similar to this species but it can be distinguished by the antennal segments III and IV with shorter sense-cones, and the pronotum with distinct sculpture lines.
